Public Trainings - Hazardous Materials and Waste

Course Description –

In this five-hour class, students will be able to identify the hazards and work safely with hazardous materials and chemical waste.

This course will give the student an overview of the OSHA Hazard Materials Standard 29 CFR 1910.120. The instructor will discuss general requirements, hazard assessment, hazardous chemicals, and hazardous material classifications. Students will also learn how to take control of a spill or release, OSHA recommendations, and establish a command system. We will also discuss the steps to decontamination, and the decontamination zone layout.

Students will also learn to use the Emergency Response Guide Book and NIOSH Pocket Guide to chemical hazards.  Class includes videos, lecture, facilitated student discussion, demonstrations, skill testing, and written testing.

  • Personal Protection
  • Classification of Hazardous Materials and Waste
  • Emergency Response Guidelines
  • Safe Handling of Hazardous Materials and Waste
  • How Chemicals React to Other Substances
  • Toxicity

Who Should Attend?

Anyone that works with or near hazardous materials or chemical waste.  This includes staff, supervisors, managers, etc.

CEUs –

Participants will receive a course completion certificate and earn .6 Continuing Education Units from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DS/DW/WW02099009) upon successful completion of the course.
