The Florida Chamber Safety Council is on a mission to create the safest, healthiest and most sustainable workforce in America. With a Florida Chamber Safety Council Membership at the Safety Advocate level, your organization will gain access to a wealth of resources and tools and connect with industry leaders.
Safety Advocate Members have access to the following:
- 24/7 Safety Support: Safety Advocate members will have access to a 24/7 call-in number for questions regarding items such as regulatory OSHA compliance, statute enforcement, what to do in the event of a workplace injury/illness/fatality, industry best practices and standards, and insurance programs such as return to work and worker compensation experience modification rates.
- Safety Council Orientation: Safety Advocate members will receive a formal in-person orientation to the Florida Chamber Safety Council, including its online platform, a discussion of training benefits and additional training options, and an initial assessment of existing safety program and culture.
- Complete Annual Risk Evaluation: Safety is not achieved in a vacuum, and many moving parts exist in a well-designed safety and risk program. This Safety Advocate’s complete risk evaluation will consider all facets of your organization. The Florida Chamber Safety Council will assist in ensuring you are regulatory compliant with OSHA, DOT, and government entities, but also assess if you are implementing industry best practices/policies/procedures and if you have the appropriate insurance coverages in place. An inspection of workplace/job site conditions will also be conducted, and a report of findings will be generated following.
Your $1000 annual Safety Advocate membership is renewable.
Below are six available training classes. Each class requires the use of one credit, granting the entry of up to 10 employees per class. Additional employees over 10 will receive a 10% Safety Advocate discount. Safety Advocates have one (1) credit, which does not expire and carries over yearly. Some classes are solely “in-person” to satisfy certain OSHA regulations, while others are marked “optional” for either in-person or virtual learning. Courses outside of the Safety Advocate level may also be taken at the 10% discounted rate, another valuable advantage to ensure that members save on training costs.
- Forklift: This two to four-hour training is designed to be general in nature since it covers safe operating procedures for all types of Powered Industrial Trucks. It is expected that operators will follow established familiarization procedures before operating models not specifically addressed during this training. The curriculum includes safe operation, inspection, basic components, refueling, battery care and different types of Power Industrial Trucks. Class includes videos, lectures, facilitated student discussion, demonstrations, skill testing and written testing per OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910. 178. Forklift training is intended for workers in construction, building development, warehouse operations and other related fields. This course will provide knowledge and skills to current operators, future operators, managers, and supervisors of forklift operations.
- HAZCOM: This four-hour course will review OSHA regulations relating to hazard awareness and communication, hazard classification, Safety Data Sheets and labeling requirements of hazardous materials within the workplace. The updated Hazard Communication Standard (as of 2012) is the core of this training and can be found in 29 CFR 1910.1200. This training course is an overview of how the system of chemical hazard information and communication works. We will review the updated Hazard Communication Standard and its alignment with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. This presentation will increase your knowledge of chemical hazards, hazard classification, and the basic personal protection methods to ensure the safe handling and usage of chemicals. Participants must always take the time to properly understand the hazards and appropriate precautions when using, handling, or working around the chemicals in their facility. This course was designed to fulfill the hazard-communication training requirements imposed by OSHA regulations. This training applies to employers and employees in nearly all places of employment, including General Industry, Construction, Manufacturing, Service, and Transportation Services.
- First Aid/CPR/AED: This six-hour course uses extensive research and educational testing to improve skill mastery and long-term retention. This First Aid/CPR/AED course was developed by the National Safety Council and provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to execute lifesaving techniques. This course is the only nationally recognized first aid training to meet OSHA best practices. Our materials are designated to allow students the time needed to master a multitude of abilities related to first aid and CPR through a combination of industry-leading curriculum and content that meets the latest CPR and ECC Guidelines. By engaging in hands-on practice, students experience greater retention and develop the confidence to respond correctly during a medical emergency. Participants will have gained the skills and confidence needed to respond to a medical emergency upon completing this course.
- Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens: This four-hour course meets OSHA’s requirements for employers to annually train their employees to safeguard those who have reasonably anticipated occupational exposure to blood. Without proper preparation, blood diseases, costly OSHA, and state-specific regulatory fines could be levied. More importantly, lives could be adversely affected or even lost. This course makes it easy to understand how OSHA’s bloodborne standard affects your organization. In this course, participants will learn the fundamentals of bloodborne pathogens, essential information on hepatitis viruses and HIV, how to prevent infection from bloodborne pathogens, exposure controls, labeling, and key facts about airborne and bloodborne pathogens, including tuberculosis. This course will also help you understand the standard and have a copy of it to keep onsite, offer refresher training, learn how to control the spread of TB and influenza, and know what to do if an exposure occurs.
- Ladder Safety: This two-hour course will review the OSHA General Industry and Construction regulatory requirements and ANSI standards for both portable and fixed ladders most used in industry today. We will focus on how to properly select, inspect, and use various portable and fixed workplace ladders. In addition, we will discuss recommended best practices to enhance your safe use of portable ladders. Applying the information that you will learn in this training session will help you avoid injuries related to the use of ladders.
- Heat Stress Prevention: This one-hour course is designed to help protect Florida workers from heat stress, a paramount concern among many industries. Heat stress is defined as heat-related illnesses that occur when the body cannot maintain a normal temperature. Heat-related disorders include heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps and heat rashes. This training course is designed to help learners understand the dangers of heat stress in both indoor and outdoor environments and how to prevent and respond to a heat stress emergency.
